This silver kettle with an animal-shaped spout in the shape of “He” was made by the famous Japanese metal craftsman, Hata Zoroku (秦 蔵六, ?~1932). From an early age, Zoroku had a special interest in Chinese bronze wares, and he later devoted himself to learning about Chinese bronze wares and also making his kettles in the shape of them. The above silver kettle is in the shape of ”He“ (盉), a classical Chinese bronze ware for serving wine. On the lid of the original box of this kettle, there is a paragraph, which was copied from Xuanhe Classical Bronze Wares Catalogue 宣和博古图录, a 12th-century catalogue of classical bronze wares. The text introduces a ware called Han Pheneoix He (汉凤盉), which inspired Hata Zoroku to make this kettle.
