The Nakagawa Joeki family, now known as the most famous teaware makers, and one of the “ten supreme craftsmen of tea wares”（千家十職）, originally started their career as arms makers. Until 1587, when the famous tea master, Sen no Riryu, who had the most profound influence on the Japanese “Way of Tea” (chanoyu), asked the first Nakagawa Joeki to make a gallipot-shaped tea kettle. This work changed the path of Nakagawa family from making arms to making tea wares. Since then，the Nakagawa family were known by the world as the best teaware makers whose works are used and enjoyed by royal and aristocratic families. In the world of Japanese tea, Nakagawa Joeki is not a single name referring to one specific person, this name was inherited by every owner of Nakagawa family in its five-hundred-year-long history, and the name itself represents the highest level of metalworking and teaware making.

【中川净益纯银壶】
“中川净益”是日本金银铜器茶具制作世家，以其精湛的金工工艺闻名于世，承袭“千家十职”金物师称号至今已400多年。作品壶型圆润饱满，壶盖略微拱，弧度恰到好处。通体素面，精雅的菊瓣摘扭画龙点晴。明治政府将“十六花瓣八重表菊”纹样规定为皇家专用。本壶之菊瓣摘扭恰为十六瓣，这处细节也许隐藏着这件作品曾经的辉煌。
